This innovative project of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics is now in its present fourth edition brought out in two volumes which covers the entire course of Pediatrics in all its aspects of child health care. It fulfills the complete criteria of a reader-friendly treatise. Contributed by the expert luminaries of Pediatrics from all over the country who have placed their evidence-based experiences, views and time tested knowledge at the hands of students and practitioners for providing best pediatric care.

Pediatrics has grown and developed with significant milestones in preventive and therapeutic care over the past few decades. The WHO and UNICEF in their Primary Health Care (PHC) approach, have given the due place for effective child survival programs. So much so the undergraduate medical student needs to be well oriented towards these approaches in Pediatrics as the future middle level manager in Primary Health Care.

Several luminaries in the Indian pediatric scenario, have contributed their mite in bringing out books for the undergraduate medical students. However, the rapid advances made in the various pediatric subspecialities have necessitated the updating of these books from time to time. Nevertheless the need for a full fledged texbook was felt for long. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics thought it fit, to shoulder the responsibility of bringing out such a need based textbook in Pediatrics for undergraduate medical students. Our erudite and enthusiastic section editors and contributors made it possible at a record time. The Academy owes it gratitude to all these experts for their worthy contribution.

The book has been divided into several parts. A few chapters included in this book are entirely newer concepts which are not usually found in the conventional undergraduate textbooks. It has also worthy annexures to the main contents. However, editing the text to suit the undergraduate needs was a Himalayan task. The idea is to equip the undergraduate medical student with adequate knowledge in Pediatrics in order to make him confident to shoulder the responsibilities concerned with preventive and curative Pediatrics. Thus, it is hoped that the practitioner of pediatric medicine will benefit from this book.

Photodynamic Therapy in Dermatology

Product Description
Photodynamic therapy is a proven effective treatment of actinically damaged skin cells, nonmelanoma skin cancers, and acne and other pilosebaceous conditions. As an agent for general facial rejuvenatin it has untapped potential. The current state of PDT therapy and future applications are discussed in detail in this exciting new volume. Throughout, the focus is on evidence-based clinical uses of PDT, including pretreatment regimens, avoidance and management of complications, and posttreatment suggestions.

From the Back Cover
Photodynamic Therapy in Dermatology is the first book to cover global research on photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the management of skin disease. Although a relatively young procedure, PDT has enjoyed increased popularity during the last ten years. As research has grown, two distinct routes have appeared: the United States model and the European one, each focusing on different uses and photosensitizers. Dr. Gold has assembled the world’s experts on PDT to create a book that concisely covers every use and photosensitizer available around the world and includes comprehensive coverage of both of the FDA-approved photosensitizers in the United States, all the while carefully differentiating between off-label and FDA-approved uses of photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic Therapy in Dermatology emphasizes how to integrate PDT into practice. Toward this end, it is organized by disease category, with each chapter providing a systematic discussion of indications, PDT approaches from country to country, common side effects, prognosis as well as the underlying science. The book will be of value to dermatologists seeking a state-of-the-art review of PDT around the world, the latest in its clinical uses, and guidance on how to incorporate PDT into clinical practice.

WHO Child Growth Standards: Growth Velocity Based on Weight, Length and Head Circumference: Methods and Development by World Health Organization

Product Details

* Pub. Date: May 2009
* Publisher: World Health Organization
* Format: Paperback, 332pp
* Series: Nonserial Publications Series
* ISBN-13: 9789241547635
* ISBN: 9241547634

Synopsis

The WHO Multicentre Growth Reference Study (MGRS) was implemented between 1997 and 2003 to generate new curves for assessing the growth and development of children the world over. The MGRS collected primary growth data and related information from 8440 healthy breastfed infants and young children from diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultural settings (Brazil, Ghana, India, Norway, Oman and USA). A key component of the MGRS design was a longitudinal cohort of children who were examined in a sequence of 21 visits starting at birth and ending at 24 months of age. A principal rationale for the longitudinal component was to allow for the development of growth velocity standards. The increments on which the velocity standards are based were calculated using the same longitudinal sample of 882 children and statistical approaches as those used in the construction of the attained growth standards.

The velocity standards presented in this report provide a set of tools for monitoring the rapid and changing rate of growth in early childhood and can be used to assess children everywhere, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status and type of feeding.
